A Crocheted Feast

Thanksgiving is hands-down, my favorite holiday. It falls right in the heart of Autumn which is my favorite season and it's filled with lots of fantastic food and no pressure to buy gifts which is the perfect holiday! Kelly's candy-themed crochet post made me hungry for other crocheted food items and of course I have to present the turkey and pumpkin pie first.

Adorable! Turns out there are a lot of crocheted food patterns out there, some of my favorites include:

and this one really caught my eye:

by Kelly

Enter Now

Vanna's Choice Contest  here. For US and Canada only. Entries must be submitted by February 1st, 2012.. Projects must use Vanna yarn, and may be original design or from an existing pattern.

To enter, you photograph your finished project and submit it to the LionBrand site along with pattern information. There's also something requiring you to 'list the Michaels store'. I'm not sure if that means that you can't purchase the yarn online, or not.

About crochet is also holding a contest.Crochet an adult sized scarf, shawl, or pair of fingerless gloves, or a cushion cover, using the 'simple stitch' guidelines she provides. Entries must be received by January 14, 2012. The winners receive free publicity on her blog, pintrest, and facebook.

Yarns on Film

by Kelly

Some animations involving yarn and knitting...

                                                     Yarn invasion

I saw this first on Dark Roasted Blend, home of all things weird and wonderful.

                                                        Yarn city

This is an advertisement for MusicID, an app for cell phones that helps you identify random music. All you have to do is turn on the app and place your phone next to the radio to identify the song and artist.  If you're a music geek like my husband, you should definitely check this out.

And finally, the one that made me decide to write this post in the first place,

                                                  Phoebe's sweater

Which is an animation of the knitting of a sweater. What's really cool about this is the book series that this sweater is from.

Phoebe's Sweater is a children's picture book that includes knitting patterns for the sweater in the story. The story itself is really sweet, and the illustrations are beautiful.

Phoebe's Sweater- Signed

I love this idea!  Making the sweater would produce a real world connection between the child and the book, providing mommy doesn't lose patience with the sweater and hurl it across the room, knitting needles and all, while uttering a word that her little darling will immediately pick up on and use in preschool the next day.
Yeah, I know. Another knitting book. What can I say, I'm on a roll.

Candy Themed Hats and Scarves

by Kelly

I was working on hats and scarves for the kid's Christmas charity, and realized that I had accidentally developed a theme.

What do you think? Anyone have other suggestions for candies I should try?
