Quilting Links

by Kelly

Continuing my quilting searches...

Here is a 'jelly roll' race that I found through the blog knit and tonic. Since a  jelly roll quilt is just long strips of material sewn together, you can actually have races! My kind of quilt.

For more 'jelly roll' quilting goodness, check out Missouri Star Co.
They have a ton of quilting tutorials using their jelly rolls of material.

Then there are these adorable little houses made out of quilting scraps. Perfect for a Christmas tree! In fact, you could design one that looks like Grandma's house, and give it to all the grandkids. Or vice versa, so Grandma has a unique 'dream house' from each of her grandkids.

And finally, getting discouraged before I even begin a new craft, I spent a long time marvelling over this one.

Yes, that's a quilt, not a painting. Incredible. And there's a poem embroidered on all those rocks. Check it out on the blog The Blue Hare.  Wonder at the amount of time she dedicated to this quilt, and realize that you will never be able to equal that dedication or artistry. (*Sigh*)

Wedding Rings

Quilting - yikes! Dan and I stopped by to see George and Donna on Sunday to deliver some extra tomatoes from our work plot. Donna is in canning mode and we were more than happy to contribute a few tomatoes to the cause. I scored a couple of jars of salsa in return and some apple butter and pickled veggies that she just put up today. Wow that takes me back. My Grandma always referred to canning as 'putting up' - I guess that was stuck back in the mind recesses.

While we were there, Donna started talking about making quilts - color me intimidated. We have a beautiful tied denim quilt that she made for us when we first moved into our home - 14 years ago this Sept. I've always liked the double wedding ring quilt pattern and to my amazement, Donna seems willing to tackle it - not sure if we should start there or perhaps a log cabin pattern which at least wouldn't have any curves.

65 Roses Community Quilt

by Kelly

Saw this on WhipUp and thought Donna might be interested. It's a community quilt made for charity. The project worked like this - quilters from all over the world each made a single block, then mailed them to a central location where they were all pieced together. Now that's the kind of quilting I could sign on for. A whole quilt seems a little intimidating, but one teeny square, that I could probably accomplish.

Check out the article here. They provide a link to a PDF where you can get the block pattern and some embroidery details.
